ENO
Eh guys. Quick question... More often lately I'm seeing guys come into the server, take a screenshot then immediately logout. Anyone got any idea what that's about? "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. 159th_Viper
Not one that I have heard of. No idea what that's about, apart from harvesting your mission that is. ENO
Can you expand on that a bit? Like... The mission info in the briefing? GGTharos
No, he means they save and keep your mission. ED Team c0ff Posted November 22, 2012 ED Team Share Posted November 22, 2012 In theory, it's possible to prevent the server mission to be saved. But it means no client tracks. Dmitry S. GGTharos
Yes, and I m not sure it is worth preventing the mission from being saved. There are cryptographic means to ensure it only runs on one server as well, but this is probably more complexity than it is worth. BRooDJeRo
See screenshotting and leaving too. When thats for trying to copy a mission i'd say: 'Not enough imagination perhaps?' Luckily i use a random spawn system. Every restart is different :music_whistling: Edited November 22, 2012 by BRooDJeRo
ENO
I think the bigger issue here, and why it is that we want to keep ours somewhat safe / secret, is to encourage people to come into a server that is run and maintained for the community 24/7. I spend the money to keep the computer running all day and night to give folks from all over the world a chance to come in and fly with a backdrop of rich cultural diversity- and our mission specialist (crew) spends the time to populate that server with unique missions that draw people to the server to help justify the time and energy to do so. There's no sense running a server 24/7 when there are 14 other servers being run on the same mission for 3 hours a day to entertain 3 people then shut down. It's kind of like everyone living on the same street throwing a block party in their own house. Sure, there are either tons of people in 1 house, or a couple people in each. If a full time server ever comes out for DCS World- suddenly everyone can come out of their homes and into the street and fly together as one big collective. At least, that's our perspective on it... So we try and bring people in... if I had my way we'd have 20 people in there non-stop. Unfortunately, that's a bit of a pipe dream but that's the reason WE try and keep our missions protected. There's nothing in it for us other than knowing our efforts are being enjoyed by many- the larger the group the better! GGTharos
The community will still come to your server. Those who take them for private runs would have run in private anyway, usually. ajax
FC3 is still new. I think what is happening is guys jump in, find out their mappings take a screenshot instead of the intended function, then leave to fix it. Who knows?
chokko
People will start up their own server to: - have the mission start when their community is ready, i.e. play the whole mission - have players play in a coordinated manner - have their own rules that differ to yours - only play with people closish to themselves (rubber-banding wing mates playing from derkaderkastan detracts from my immerision) - guarantee someone is around to remove tk/td etc - communicate in common language simples [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
ScotchMagic
Eh guys. Quick question... More often lately I'm seeing guys come into the server, take a screenshot then immediately logout. Anyone got any idea what that's about? Hey Eno, this is FlayedSteel. A lot of the time's I might log in and immediately log out because I forgot to plug in my TrackIR5, which requires restart of DCS to get going again. Stuff like that or mappings. Not sure about the screenshot guys though, that's a bit odd. Probably just a fluke.
